About Tyna Silver

Tyna Silver I have been doodling people and other animals since I was a child in Toronto, Ontario. Looking back, this turned out to be an accurate omen for my future, since my mom says that even then, she worried about my curiosity and frequent interaction with strangers and every living creature that crossed my path. Despite my comfort with people, I have always felt most alive and connected sitting alone on a log in the midst of the forest admiring the intricate and awesome designs of the ultimate artist, Mother Nature.
I suppose these basic interests which have survived to today explain my educational choices. Ontario College of Art, Buckhorn School of Wildlife Art and various other art courses encouraged me to explore ways to artistically express the spirit of the things I loved. A Toronto Teacher's College degree and Waldorf Teacher training allowed me to interact with the innocence and wisdom of young children where I used every opportunity to enhance their learning using art and nature study.
Upon moving to Northern Ontario I began the Temiskaming Field Naturalists which explored all natural aspects of the area. I also had the rare opportunity as a wildlife rehabilitator for the Ministry of Natural Resources to have hands on experience while caring for wildlife that would come to us through my husband's veterinary practice.
All these experiences, along with raising my own young family and my years of encouragement through active membership in the local Temiskaming Palette and Brush (art) Club eventually led me to my current focus on pastel portraiture. It is my intention with this, to capture and encourage appreciation for the unique spirit and personalities of all people, pets, and wildlife. In my own small way, I hope I can contribute to a greater understanding that all life, regardless of gender, age, race, religion or species is beautiful! My absolutely favourite quote is: "Labels are for soup cans, NOT for People!" (from a Labatt's beer magazine ad.)
